Квартира располагалась над магазином, торгующим предметами, связанными с колдовством вуду. По словам соседей, пара недавно въехала в апартаменты. Как сказал один из соседей, недавно Боуэн пожаловался ему, что подружка выгоняет его из дома. Владелец квартиры сообщил, что пара сняла у него апартаменты с одной спальней 1 октября.
