Вот послушал Bloodbath 2004, и нифига не остался доволен. Имхо это вообще упадок. Мало того, что музыка почти совсем не драйвовая (про технику вообще не говорю -- полное отсутствие навороченности), но ещё и вокал... Как бы это сказать... Вокальные партии совсем несерьёзно лежат на музыке. Он как стихи читает. Ну извините, когда вокал идёт строго ПО ритм-секции, это вообще не смотрится, имхо. Надо было хоть чуть разнообразить...

 

Кстати, щас играет Bastard Son of God -- ну не Hypocrisy ли это? Ладно, за исключением одного риффа, который на бластбите...

Тагтгрен не принимал участие в написании материала на альбом вообще!

 

имхо, новый альбом гораздо интереснее, чем предыдущие. и драйвовее.

Да знаю я. 2000-ого года, так и называется Into Eternity, у нас кстати есть песня с него - Torn. Находится в компиляции Prognosis. Мне в прошлом году вместе с журналом каким-то пришёл диск.

 

Эх, жаль, качество на 2001-ом не супер. Битрейт всего 160.

Ok metalheads. I've heard it a million times, "Ashes of the Wake is the best metal album of 2004!". Well, it WAS. Krisiun has a bad name by some because of the monotonus drumming, that's all gone. In fact the opening track "Slain Fate" doesn't even have 1 blast beat in it till the very end where there are a few short bursts. Instead Max Kolesne sounds like he spent the whole last year working on creative double bass work. He's doing double bass lines not unlike war songs usually heard only on a snare and FASTER THAN HELL!!! This is a big change for Krisiun but hardcore fans will not be dissapointed, I promise. Don't worry, when you get to the song titled "Hateful Nature" it opens up with the good ol' bomb blast Max has always been famous for except with speed that makes the drumming on Vital Remains' - Dechristianize sound a bit inferior (it's fucking fast). The guitar riffs are the usual Moyses Kolesne style slightly modified for the new drumming changeups. The only thing I find lacking here is his solos just aren't there. For those of you who haven't ever seen these guys live Moyses is the king of speed! Watching him play solos is enough to make almost any guitar guru fall to his knees and bow. But the solos on this album aren't like that, they're mid tempo and (I hate like hell to say it) pretty damn simple! Alex Camargo fills in the rest of the space well, molesting the bass guitar as usual and belting out some of the sickest vocals ever known to the death metal scene. This is metal at it's finest people! Buy this cd when it comes out! More highlights are remastered versions of 4 old songs from "Unmerciful Order" and "Apocalyptic Revelation" at the end of the album. Longtime fans will really appreciate these.

It's over an hour past midnight and in the morning I'm going to the university for the first time of my life. But I'm not asleep... is it of the full moon that shines brightly in the sky, even through the curtains at my window? More likely it's because VADER - THE BEAST is playing for the fourth time today. It's great to lie in your bed and listen to music, the experience is twice that when listening whilst doing something else. And I'm not sleepy, so I got up to write this review.

 

This album is great, and I mean it, certainly deserving a place next to Vader's top releases like Litany and Revelations. There are two characteristics in this album that deserve to be given a special mention: progressive elements in the essential death metal guitar grinding and crystal clear production. I haven't heard many metal albums with a production that excellent, especially in the more extreme forms of metal. Every single finger touch to the instruments' strings can be distinguished. This is awesome!

 

Now, I mentioned progressive tendencies. That's true. While the Polish death metal scene is in a permanent state of progression, "The Beast" is a considerable step forward even for Vader. Don't get me wrong - there are no complex and long solos in this album. There are a few rather unremarkable tries, for instance in the song "Insomnia" which really don't justify their existence, nothing would be lost if they weren't there. That's ok though because I'm not after soloing in death metal. It's the aggression that makes this style what it is!

 

Vader hasn't gone any softer. They're still the kick ass axe grinders they used to be, and they're doing it with an attitude! I'm speaking about the real mother of extreme metal aggression, the mighty Slayer. I'm not trying to be mean, nor am I trying to say anything negative, but this album is strikingly similar to 80s Slayer records. The riffs, the occasional short solos, even the vocals... I repeat, that's not anything bad to be influenced by the old thrash gods. Death metal probably wouldn't exist at all without them. And since Slayer gave the genre such great blueprints, why not use them? Vader use them, and with great effect! Truly, "The Beast" should have something for both newer death metal maniacs and older generation hard rockers.

 

I guess it should be pretty clear by now (provided you also have heard Vader's earlier works) that they haven't been your stereotype death metal band for years already. I always thought of them as part death, part traditional metal. While I could name some other bands that use this recipe, Vader with their 15 years of experience succeed best. One other thing that leads back to Vader's great thrash influences in the 80s, rather than death metal, is the vocals. You could call the vocals clear. Harsh, but clear. Growls are rare and there's definitely no un-pronounceable cookie monster voice. Thanks to that, and with regards to the production department, almost every word is easy to understand. Hell, some songs are even catchy, like "Firebringer" which is btw one of the best tracks on this album. I know the vocals used to be pretty much like that on "Revelations" as well, but they have progressed further like everything else. May we hope a clear-vocal death metal album from Vader next time? I wouldn't mind, as long as they keep the six-strings heated.

 

Enough said. "The Beast" is a true beast of a record and guaranteed to get your head going. It sure got mine... well, that's it! This album is one of the best this year and a death metal classic since birth.

Dark Fortress - Stab wounds [2004]

Wow, what a gigantic impact. Almost 70 minutes of black metal in the old school vein! Phenomenal, powerful, raw, heavy, fast and as Nordic as it can be. And again it is done by a German band. Dark Fortress is their name and their product is called '...Some Wounds Only Death May Heal'. Okay, the music might be far from original, but that is not what it is all about when you go for tradition. And that is what we black metalfans usually look for when we speak of "old school". Here and there I still detect the sound of a synthesizer that subtly fills in some places with choral sounds and mystical melodies. All sorts of interesting intros and intermezzo' create very fitting atmospheres per song. The rhythms are tight and heavy, while the riffs are powerful and gripping. The tempos change often enough for the songs to stay interesting. This is a very convincing black metal CD! I am very interested in their other works!
